Karen’s Nutrition Project, Guatemala City

 by Chuck Haren

Plenty continues to work with the women living near the entrance to the Guatemala City dump where they prepare and distribute fresh soymilk and cookies fortified with hand ground toasted soy flour to undernourished and vulnerable children living in adjacent shanty settlements. Our partners, Grupo de Soya Santa Maria (GSSM), have received a donation from Caritas to pay for 90% of the cost of soybeans they are using. GSSM continues to provide nutrition and soy food processing classes for local mothers and youth. Plenty is also helping GSSM to establish a small fresh soy food processing and distribution business.
