Kids To The Country

By Mary Ellen Bowen, KTC Director

Kids To The Country is gearing up for summer, with five sessions planned for June and July. The KTC program offers disadvantaged urban kids aged 6-12 the chance to get out of the city and experience nature in all its glory on the Farm in Summertown, Tennessee. They ride bikes and horses, hike along dense forest paths, star gaze, perform in talent shows and experience conflict resolution, vegetarian food, music, arts and crafts, organic gardening, swimming and more, in a supportive atmosphere of cooperation, love and community. KTC is looking for financial sponsorships and interns for the “Kids” this summer! Each year KTC involves at least 100 kids, at the cost of $300 per child for one session, or $75 per child per day. Thanks to Plenty’s donors and the foundations who have made this program possible for so many years. This is our 18th season and we dedicate it to the loving memory of Senior Staff member, Dorothy Bates, who taught us kids can cook and life is like a feast to be savored with gusto!
