Belize Solar Project at San Jose Village

The village leaders at San Jose are very interested in Plenty’s help to install a solar demonstration project at the community hurricane shelter currently under construction at the school. San Jose village was badly hit during Hurricane Iris in October 2001, and is not part of the District’s electrical grid. Having a solar alternative would provide a number of benefits for the community, both in the aftermath of a disaster, as well as for regular community use. The ability to provide light and show slides and other media would allow for a great increase in the educational and community opportunities available in the village, as a variety of classes and meetings could be held at night. This project will be underway this spring.
