Mayan
Temples

The mountains surrounding Punta Gorda in the Toledo district are filled with Mayan ruins, both restored and those yet to be uncovered.

All are within an hour's drive from PG, awaiting your arrival.

Lubaantun

Many represent some of the most important discoveries of classic Maya civilization, including the second largest stellae ever uncovered, longer than a telephone pole.

The unique angle cut stone of Lubaantun is found at no other Mayan ruins in Belize, demonstrating the highest level of architectural development.

Nim Li Punit

Visit the royal observatory of Nim Li Punit, designed by ancient astrologers for alignment with the summer solstice and the spring and fall equinox. From their palace the powerful rulers could survey the entire valley of their civilization below, even at times as far as the Caribbean waters. The view is breathtaking and exhilarating.

This unique stellae at Nim Li Punit is remarkably well preserved, one of the clearest in existence.

The piece was discovered with its surface was face down in the soft soil, protecting it from exposure to centuries of rain and wind.
