Cacao

Cacao, the raw form of chocolate, has long been a valuable cash crop for our Mayan Farmers During the time our great Mayan temples and pyramids were built the dried seeds were used as money among the people.

Today the Toledo Cacao Growers Association grows organic cacao for sale to overseas markets.

The beans are also commonly prepared as a family beverage, served hot or cold, sweet or unsweetened, when it resembles a richly flavored coffee.
